Calcite

Calcite

Calcite, a multifunctional medium, functions well for sediment filtration and ‘polishes” the water. In addition, calcite will, under controlled flow, neutralize low pH water. When dissolved iron is present in a water supply, calcite will act as a catalyst, removing a portion of total iron. Being quite dense, it needs good full backwashing. When calcite is used as a neutralizer medium, a portion of it is consumed, so that the filter bed must be replenished periodically.
